Course Overview
The Scar Camouflage & Paramedical Cosmetic Tattoo Course is advanced training for experienced cosmetic tattoo artists who want to add scar camouflage and paramedical work to their service menu. Using flesh-tone pigments and specialised application techniques, you’ll learn how to soften the appearance of skin discolourations from injuries, surgical scars, stretch marks, vitiligo and other skin conditions, blending them with the surrounding skin tone for a more even, natural-looking finish.

Skills You’ll Learn
Scar camouflage and paramedical cosmetic tattoo training builds on existing pigment-placement skill and adds the specific knowledge needed for working on scar tissue and discoloured skin. Across the course you’ll develop:
- Scar assessment and classification — recognising surgical, atrophic, hypertrophic, burn and hypopigmented scars and choosing the right approach for each.
- Skin anatomy applied to scar tissue — how the epidermis, dermis and scar tissue differ in vascularity, elasticity and pigment retention.
- Contraindications and client safety — identifying when to defer, refer or refuse treatment.
- Consultation and expectation-setting — handling consultations with empathy and honesty, particularly for clients with emotionally significant scars.
- Colour theory and pigment customisation — neutralising unwanted undertones and blending flesh-tone pigments to match the client’s surrounding skin.
- Application techniques by scar type — adapting needle depth, stippling, layering and pressure for each scar presentation.
- Aftercare and touch-up planning — guiding the client through healing and scheduling refinement sessions.

The curriculum is structured around ten modules drawn from Artisan Training Academy’s Paramedical Scar Camouflage Learner Guide. Online theory is completed at your own pace before your face-to-face practical day(s) on the Gold Coast.

- Initial touch-up at 4–6 weeks post-procedure

Prerequisites
This course is designed for established cosmetic tattoo artists with prior pigment-placement experience and a foundation in colour theory and skin anatomy. HLTINF005 Maintain Infection Prevention for Skin Penetration Treatments is required because the work involves skin penetration on compromised skin. If you don’t yet hold HLTINF005, choose the two-day pathway, which includes it.
Certification
This is a non-accredited training course. On completion you’ll receive an Artisan Training Academy certificate of completion in Scar Camouflage & Paramedical Cosmetic Tattooing. For students enrolled in the two-day pathway, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTINF005 is issued by Artisan Training Academy (RTO 46085) on successful completion of that unit. Is the Scar Camouflage Course accredited?
No — this is a non-accredited training course. You’ll receive an Artisan Training Academy certificate of completion in Scar Camouflage & Paramedical Cosmetic Tattooing. If you want the nationally recognised pathway in cosmetic tattooing, take a look at our Diploma of Cosmetic Tattooing SHB50321. Students who choose the two-day option that includes HLTINF005 also receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for that unit.
Do I need prior cosmetic tattoo experience to enrol?
The one-day pathway is designed for established cosmetic tattoo artists who already hold HLTINF005 and have a working foundation in pigment placement, colour theory and skin anatomy. If you don’t have that background, the two-day pathway is open to you — it adds a dedicated theory day plus HLTINF005 before your practical day, so you’ll be properly prepared before stepping into the live application work.
How long is the course and how is it delivered?
Online theory through the Paramedical Scar Camouflage Learner Guide is completed at your own pace and is included in both pathways. The face-to-face component is either one practical day (existing HLTINF005 holders) or one theory day plus one practical day (which also includes HLTINF005). All face-to-face training is delivered one-on-one in our Worongary studio on the Gold Coast, and the practical day includes hands-on application on 1–2 live models with real-time feedback from Carlye.
How will I be assessed?
As a non-accredited course there’s no formal Unit Assessment Task. Your practical day is supervised by Carlye, with feedback and guidance given throughout. You’ll work on 1–2 live models so your technique can be observed, corrected and refined in real time. Students enrolled in the two-day pathway also complete the assessment for HLTINF005 to receive the nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
What’s included in the course fee?
Both pathways include full online theory access, your one-on-one face-to-face training with Carlye, pigment samples and colour-matching reference charts, all equipment and supplies used during the practical, and ongoing trainer support. Where is the training delivered and what payment options are available?
All practical training is delivered at our Worongary studio on the Gold Coast. Payment options include a $500 deposit + balance one week before your start date, or a TLC Finance payment plan with no deposit required and flexible terms up to 84 months. Card payments are accepted on enrolment via Square.

For the two-day pathway, your theory day (which also covers HLTINF005) is scheduled separately ahead of your practical day, so you’ll have time to absorb the material before live application.
